About the story…

This story was inspired by my son. Being a timid, introverted and kind child, he always found social situations to be overwhelming and intimidating; With bright red cheeks and sweaty palms, he would cling to my leg and go mute. It saddened my heart to see such anxiety brewing within him – reminding me of my own childhood. Over the years, we worked hard at overcoming the butterflies that filled his tummy. Through musical performances, hockey and various other activities, he was supported by caring people that helped to build up his confidence. We often practiced how to say “hello” to people and phrases to engage in conversation. I am truly so proud of the confident and happy boy he has become! I wrote and illustrated this book hoping that other families will find encouragement while navigating through challenging social anxieties with their children.

About the story…

My little girl has grown so much since I first started jotting down ideas for this book. She is a high-spirited little one with big opinions. In her toddler years when her tantrums were at their peak, it was challenging helping her calm down. I was exhausted and at my wits end. She was and is a very determined little one, so when the storm brought on by frustration would begin, we had to ride it out. When the outbursts subsided, it broke my heart when she would look at me with shame in her eyes and ask me, “Mommy, do you still love me?”. Such a little person with such a huge worry! “Of course I do!”, I would always say. Overtime, after she calmed down, we talked about ways she could cope with her feelings of frustration. I wrote this book to reassure her (and hopefully other little ones) that their behaviour doesn’t define them. It’s about managing emotions with loving support . Even now, when she begins to get frustrated, we talk about calming little monster. She’s quick to realize that we’re addressing her behaviour and that no matter what, I love her. It warms my heart when she throws herself into my arms with relief. If you’ve got a fiery little one, I’m sure you’ll find this book relatable!

“Do Mom and Dad still love me?” Wow! This line in the book hit hard because it’s not always articulated well in books how characters feel and reflect on their emotions, especially anger. I liked the rhymes and the color scheme to show the contrast between the little girl and the anger building up from within. I think this book will be a great addition to parents’ bedtime story routine to help teach their children about accepting and overcoming their anger issues and emotions in general.

This book is a story about a little girl trying to find ways to control her emotions better. The illustrations are really cute and the rhyming text help keep the story light hearted. The story, lessons and illustrations in this book have obviously been thoughtfully planned. This is another great book to add to my kids bookshelf.

This book captures common and relatable situations where big emotions can take control. It candidly addresses those emotions and provides acknowledgement that sometimes they just can’t help themselves! This book helped my daughter feel understood and spark discussion around ways to help self regulate. And the illustrations were beautiful too!

About the story…

My daughter is a ball of energy who lights up our family. Since she was little, she’s always looking for adventures and finds ways to bring fun and laughter to everyone around her. She’s never been one to doubt herself or let anyone shake her confidence. Persistent and strong-willed, she knows what she likes and what she doesn’t; I’ve learned to sit back and let her grow into her own person.

From a young age, she loved exploring insects, climbing on everything she could find, and leading her brother on all kinds of imaginative adventures. She played with anything she could get her hands on, preferred clothes she could move and run in, kept her hair short, and loved zooming around in her Superman cape with her favorite stuffed animals. Watching her was like a breath of fresh air – pure freedom and confidence.

This book was inspired by her, but it’s really about breaking free from gender stereotypes and encouraging all children to explore, play, and express themselves without limits. I’m so proud of the confidence she has in being herself – making choices that feel right to her, free from the judgments or expectations of others.

He, They, She? I am ME! is a reminder to all of us to support our little ones in growing up confident, proud, and free to be whoever they want to be – beyond stereotypes and expectations.

He, they, she? I am me! is a beautifully illustrated book that encourages kids to express themselves freely, beyond traditional gender stereotypes. It promotes love, acceptance and support, reminding us that being your true self is key to healthy relationships (with self and others), even when things differ from expected norms. My daughter loves dolls, trains and dinosaurs and my son loves bouncy balls, pink clothing, and wears hairbands. Whether a boy likes dolls or a girl enjoys dinosaurs, it’s all about being true to themselves. their anger issues and emotions in general.

Captivating illustrations that took us on a journey of acceptance. A fantasy book that touches on an important topic in a kid friendly way. My little one was in awe of the drawings and even tried some of her own! Love the back glossary that describes the symbolic meaning of the carefully chosen images. Love!!

My daughter loved how the girl in the book, despite being pressured to conform to the social norm like wearing dresses, decides to be her true self. She also loved the cute illustrations.
